The spawn called Membaris was born on October the 18th 1999. Till this day the sedulous ambition of this band was to compose music of the deepest human emotions that emerge from the existance in the post modern, capitalistic and, so to speak, virtual world. Membaris, in the true essence, is Black Metal, nothing more-nothing less. After the early days, when occultism and certain anti-christian and oppositional concepts dominated the genesis of this collective, Membaris today write the soundtrack for their personal, yet meditative, experiences on this earth. Above all was and ever will be the will to create tunes of hatred, pride and beauty.

As first manifestation the Demo "When Darkness Reigns..." was recorded on a four-track machine. Typical for this release was the rather unique sound which was inspired by old Scandinavian demos tapes. But not only the sound, also the music itself represented to this early stage a degree of musical extremism which was unique in Germany. With several gigs in the same year the band underlined its will to go out and celebrate their vision of German Black Metal also live on stage.

With help of members of the Black Metal-Brotherhood "DarkBound" the recording of the first full-length "Poetry of Chaos" started 2003 in Northeim. After a long mixing-process "Poetry of Chaos" was finally released on March the 27th 2004. The debut contains a wide degree of musical expressions. With "Planetary Rites" Membaris surprised with Thrash influences whereas songs like "Where no light exists" and "Silence" underlined the bewildering character of the demo. "Glorious Times" is an ode to the "good old times", the electrifying experiences an individual might undergo after the first contact with dedicated and true Black Metal.

After the debut a contract with another label was signed for the second output "Into Nevermore". In 2005 the new tracks were eternalized in the Ultraton Studio, Bingen. The decision to trust the label turned out to be a big mistake, as they did nothing to release the recording. After a quite frustrating time full of anger the band withdrew from the contract and signed a new one with the young and motivated German label ARTicaz. Date of release was June the 15th 2007.

"Conspiracy" is the name of a split CD with Weird Fate, another band whose members live near the old-growth German forest called "Westerwald". As the title suggests, this recording underlines the strong friendship of both bands and their similar approach towards certain values within Black Metal. The CD contains three new songs of each band. With their contribution Weird Fate surpise with a high degree of musical inspiration and professionalism. Wether you miss the crushing melodies of old Ulver, the mind raping rythms of Graveland or the symphonic tunes of Emperor, Weird Fate is a new hope of German Black Metal. The part of Membaris represents the most gloomy and opaque soundscapes so far recorded. As stated in several interviews "Conspiracy" was the first record the individuals were satisfied with in terms of atmosphere.

A trip with the velocity of light through the vastness of space, arrogant glorification, murder visions and a poem to loneliness: Two years of hard work shaped "Grenzgänger", the most damned and merciless recording by the collective. Working once again with the Elektrizitätswerke studio for the drum recordings, Membaris this time handled all the rest by themselves. The mastering of the material was done by Tore Stjerna (Necromorbus Studio, Sweden). Only time can tell what will be left of "Grenzgänger" but it is certain, that the music is way out of line compared to the commonly musical taste of today's scene. Music to praise the moments when harmony burns.
